Ten students representing Denchi Kai Academy travelled down to Atherton to take part in the North West Open Championships. (pictured below)

Everyone competed very well and a good day was had by all. Five students in particular performed to a very high standard and returned home with trophies. In the ippon kumite category Jack Preston (3rd Kyu) and Brett Billingham (4th Kyu) attained a trophy each. Jack obtained 3rd place and Brett got through to the finals, achieving 2nd place. Also Ross Billingham achieved 4th place. Well done lads!
Three teams competed in the team kata category, all performing excellently. One team, consisting of Laura Smith (2nd Dan), Jennifer Stokoe(5th Kyu)and Sarah Billingham(5th Kyu) got through the eliminitions, coming joint with another team. In the finals the team came 3rd overall. Well done!
